Good Winter Fun

The reality of the Canadian winter is that it's cold. Very cold. So we don't actually get outside every day, which is tough on a family like ours that enjoys going on an hour long walk in the evening. It's important to get out every day, though, even if it's taking the kids to the mall to walk around (although at this particular time that activity is out of the question). We do experience the weather phenomena known as a chinook every now and then. The diagram below explains what happens.
When this happens we can go outside and enjoy a warm period and even some sun. For those times when can really understand why it's called the 'dead' of winter, though, there are still ways to get out past the mall or library. Most communities have a rec center with lots of programs and activities (and of course, a hockey rink). We take the girls to tumble time just about every week. They put lots of fun stuff in a gym like slides, foam mats, soccer goals and even bounce houses and you let your kid run wild. You'll notice we don't have a picture of the Goose because we couldn't get a good picture of her without dishing out $400 dollars for a camera with a professional standard shutter speed. The Missy Moo, however, is always good for a photo op.

Mission accomplished, we tired her out.

During the last chinook I took the girls out to the park and ran them around in the sled. They loved it.
We started luge style

Then they sat up. Moo's making a play for the snow right here.

It looks like they both got some snow in their mouth in this picture. I don't mind, seeing that the snow at the park was virtually untouched. I mean, who goes to a little park with no good sled hills when there is a foot of snow on the ground?

Bonus pictures
In case you missed my pictures of the snow drift on facebook.

She eats three pancakes in a sitting and leaves minimal crumbs.

And what's being a baby all about if not for photos eating spaghetti and getting sauce all over your face...

...while being unable to get a single noodle all the way in your mouth (we cut the noodles after we got a few good pictures).
